Welcome to the Coastal Oceanography Lab

The Coastal Oceanography Laboratory (COLAB) is part of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) at William & Mary. We are situated in the Chesapeake Bay at Gloucester Point, Virginia.

COLAB’s mission is to advance our understanding of how the coastal ocean works. We study the circulation and dynamics of the coastal ocean and estuaries, with special interest to questions that can benefit society and aid in the proper management of our oceans and coastal regions.

To understand the high complexity of the ocean, we use a combination of in situ observations from moorings, shipboard data, lagrangean drifters, satellite remote sensing, High-Frequency land-based radars, autonomous underwater vehicle and numerical modeling.

We are looking for passionate new Graduate students to join the team (more info) !
